Sent, and on its way to one company
Keep your phone close, because your request about job is now with one foundation company serving your area.
- 1Your phone may show a number that isn't ours, because the company calls or texts from its own, and it should tell you who it is.
- 2Ask for an engineer's written report the company didn't write before you agree to any structural work. Florida has no foundation repair license category, so ask which state contractor license the company holds, look it up on myfloridalicense.com and get its certificate of insurance.
- 3If the price or the plan doesn't add up, say no. Before you agree, get a second opinion from someone with no repair to sell.
Smell gas at any point? Get out first, and phone 911 and your gas utility from outside the house.
Before they call
- Photograph every crack with a coin or ruler beside it for scale, then pencil a mark and the date at each end.
- Jot down when you first saw it and whether it's grown since.
- Dig out the age of the house and any old repair paperwork or warranty.
- Plan on at least two quotes, plus an engineer's report for anything structural.
- Make sure nobody has to move boxes to reach the wall, the crawl space hatch or the sump pit when the visit starts.
